As a food reviewer of Restaurant World, I was immediately drawn to Lapis for its commitment to providing halal options and its dedication to catering to a variety of dietary preferences. From vegan dishes to limited vegetarian options, there is something for everyone at this trendy and intimate spot.
One of the standout features of Lapis is its plastic-free packaging and reusable tableware, showing a commitment to sustainability that is often hard to find in the restaurant industry. The attention to detail extends to the gender-neutral restrooms and dog-friendly atmosphere, making it a welcoming space for all.
While not wheelchair accessible, Lapis makes up for it with its cozy outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a cocktail or two on a warm evening. The full bar offers a wide range of drinks, with best nights on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday when the place really comes alive.

I was so excited to try this restaurant! The interior is beautifully decorated and there's an inside dining area, outside patio, and downstairs area. Our waiter was really attentive and answered all of our questions about the menu thoroughly. The food was good, lots of options for vegetarians/vegans! I personally need more spice in my food so I would ask for hot sauce on the side

I really did like this place but I nothing blew me away so 4 stars. Ambience is cool but the basement felt a bit claustrophobic since there are windows but covered. The service was good and very attentive, good coursing out. - Bolani: I liked the onion/potato and my partner like the beef the best the chutney is spicy bit amazing - Mantoo shrimp: I wanted to like this but the skin was too fragile and flavors didn't blow me away - Qabuli palow: I was nervous about the raisins here but surprisingly not a super strong flavor and pleasant with the rice and carrots - Buranee Bademjan: tender and nice creamy sauce - Pista: pistachio cake was super light and nutty, great end to dinner

Love this place for the food, comfort food with a punch of taste. Good choice of proteins as well as vegetarian options. The service is also decent. Ambience is like other standard restaurants, so not bad. Herati Western - a nice drink, balanxe. Aushak - great veggie dumpling, refreshing and filling at the same time... a bit unusual Qabuli palow - rice with lamb have sufficient but there is also a lot of sweet ingredients, so you need to be sure that want that natural sweetness

Went here for Sunday brunch with the family. The restaurant was busy, but we had a reservation and we were seated right away. I suggest making a reservation if you are thinking about going here. We got the sambosa trio. They came out hot and the flavor was spot on, except the spinach not my favorite. The lamb shank was very tender and flavorful. It had a really nice seasoned tomato sauce. We also had the Kandahar meat platter for 2. You probably could have stretched it for a 3rd person. I was told the dumplings were very good. The Sambosas were the same as I had ordered. The meat dishes were very tasty. The rice pudding was excellent, it came with crushed pistachios on top. I highly recommend Lapis if you are looking for some good Afghan food.

My favorites were the lamb shank because it was so tender and the samarok mushroom/kadoo pumpkin. I also preferred the creamy sauce with the shrimp dumplings over the aushak which was filled with veggies. We ordered for a party of 5 and had 2 vegetables with 3 meat entrees. The lamb shank was hands down the best entree, we also ordered the boneless lamb shank with rice and I didn't like that as much. For dessert, my friend and I preferred the pistachio cake which is sweeter and very light. The firni tasted ginger-y/slightly spicy to me, but others in my table preferred the firni because it was more unique. I came on a holiday and they were understaffed so service was incredibly slow. I recommend making a reservation in advance. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, and is decorated with pics of Afghanistan. This is a family-owned business that seems to be very popular. Good food but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. I would definitely recommend it if you're nearby.

Came here with relatives who had never had Afghan food before. It's honestly a difficult cuisine to describe, but they compared it to a mix of mediterranean, turkish, and Nepalese food which i think covers all the broad strokes. We sat outside, which we were nervous about, but it was covered and they had heaters and i'm assuming fans for the summer as well. Favorites were the dumplings and the incredibly tender lamb. Not pictured was the simple cucumber, tomato salad which I would highly recommend to cut some of the richness of the other food. We saw our neighbors ordered it and got inspired. Service here is always never 100%, because i think the waiters are always running around, and we were placed in a further corner away. I would say competent, but not a place that goes above and beyond. Food will keep bringing me back though!!

Review for Sunday brunch: Firstly, I love that the meats are halal (this is mentioned on their website at lapises.com/food-drink)! Interior is so cute and homey, and I requested upstairs seating when I booked my reservation based on other reviews. We were about 10 min late for our reservation but were greeted and promptly seated, handed menus, and asked if we had any questions. You are allowed to order off the brunch menu ($37 per person and you get a choice of crossiant, savory entree and sweet entree). You can also order off their main menu, so there is a lot of options! I got a ginger lemonade mocktail, which you could strongly taste the ginger, and it was delicious! First we got the croissants, which were flaky but a bit dry, but yummy. They soon brought out the savory entrees, in which we got the bolani (potato and leek filling and beef, with delicious chutneys), and the karayee with ground beef, which was like a shakshuka and it alright, seasoned well. They checked on us to see if we were done with the savory dish before bringing the sweet dishes out after, in which we got the rose pistachio pancakes which came with a sheera type syrup (like a simple syrup) and they were sooo soft, and the yogurt parfait, which was okay. Service was good, and they would check on us. I didn't feel rushed, yet I didn't feel ignored. There is a 20% service fee added to all checks despite party size. It was a wonderful experience and I'd love to come back here!

A local restaurant on Valentine's Day. What could go wrong? Well actually we got ahead of the rush here (11am) before the locals poured in (noon). The dumpling appetizer stole the show.
